View all treatmentsCryotherapy is a quick, non-invasive treatment used to remove a variety of benign skin lesions by freezing them at the root. At The Canmore Clinic in Dunfermline, we offer professional cryotherapy treatment as part of our minor skin procedures — carried out safely by Dr Matt Bulkeley, our experienced private GP.
Whether you’re looking to remove warts, skin tags, sunspots (actinic keratoses) or other harmless lesions, cryotherapy offers a fast, effective solution with minimal downtime.
Cryotherapy is suitable for the treatment of several common skin lesions, including:
We always begin with a clinical assessment to confirm whether cryotherapy is the most appropriate treatment for your skin concern.
Cryotherapy works by applying a controlled burst of liquid nitrogen to the lesion. This freezes and destroys abnormal skin cells while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The treated area will crust and fall away naturally over the days that follow.
The treatment is quick — usually under 5 minutes per lesion — and no anaesthetic is needed in most cases.
Cryotherapy is ideal if you:
If you’re unsure, start with a Mole Review or Lesion Assessment to determine the best treatment approach.

You’ll find The Canmore Clinic at 30 Canmore Street, Dunfermline, Fife KY12 7NT — easily accessible from surrounding areas including Rosyth, Inverkeithing, and the wider Fife region.
You may feel a short burst of stinging or cold during the procedure, but most patients find it very tolerable. Any discomfort usually subsides quickly after treatment.
Most lesions heal within 1–2 weeks. A small scab or crust may form and fall away naturally. We’ll provide aftercare guidance to ensure smooth healing.
Cryotherapy can treat some types of benign moles, but a full assessment is required first to ensure it’s safe and appropriate. We do not use cryotherapy on suspicious or potentially cancerous moles.
