View all treatmentsHeavy periods are common, and many women wait some time before seeking support — but effective treatment options are available.
If you are changing protection every hour or two, passing clots, flooding through to your clothes or bedding, or adjusting work and social plans around your cycle, it is worth talking through your options. Dr Emily Arthurs, our female GP, sees women privately at our Dunfermline clinic to assess and treat heavy menstrual bleeding.
Periods often become heavier and less predictable in your forties as hormone levels change. It is one of the earliest signs of perimenopause and can be one of the most disruptive.
Because Dr Emily Arthurs holds the British Menopause Society Certificate in the Management of the Menopause and fits coils, she can look at the whole picture rather than treating the bleeding in isolation — which matters, because for many women the same treatment addresses both.
Please tell us when you book if you have bleeding between periods, bleeding after sex, bleeding after the menopause, or if your periods have changed suddenly. These need assessment in their own right rather than treatment for heavy bleeding alone.
We offer flexible booking options to fit around your schedule. You can:
