Fast, Professional HGV Medical Examinations for Drivers

At The Canmore Clinic in Dunfermline, we provide HGV medical examinations for new and renewing drivers. If you’re applying for or renewing your Group 2 licence (HGV, LGV or PCV), our experienced GP, Dr Matt Bulkeley, will complete your D4 medical assessment quickly, efficiently, and in line with DVLA requirements.

What Is an HGV Medical?

All Group 2 drivers are legally required to undergo a medical assessment to confirm they are fit to drive safely. This includes lorry drivers, bus drivers, and anyone holding a commercial driving licence.

The medical involves completing the DVLA’s D4 medical form, which includes a physical examination and a review of your medical history.

What Does the HGV Medical Include?

  • Review of your full medical history
  • Vision test (with and without glasses or contact lenses)
  • Blood pressure check
  • Cardiovascular and neurological assessment
  • General physical examination (height, weight, etc.)
  • Completion of the D4 form by our GP

Our aim is to make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible, ensuring you meet the necessary criteria to keep driving professionally.

Who Needs an HGV Medical?

  • New drivers applying for their Group 2 licence
  • Drivers renewing their HGV/LGV/PCV licence at age 45 and every 5 years thereafter
  • Drivers over 65 — annual medicals are required

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of an HGV medical at The Canmore Clinic includes the full assessment and completion of the D4 form.
